Blog Group Interests

We were asked to share our 10 examples of creative inspiration with the rest of our blog group. From this we had to make notes on why each person liked each example and try to identify their main interests. These were the notes I made:

Ellen

  • She liked the images on Pinterest because she finds them humorous
  • Anthony Peters is an inspiration to her because he produces illustrations in the style she likes.
  • Stephanie Ackerman's work involves a lot of doodling in the same style Ellen uses. They have similar interests when it comes to illustration.
  • She also likes the style of Carrie Lewis's illustrations, she also often doodles.
  • Zoe More O'ferrall draws small, effective illustrations which is something Ellen also enjoys doing.
  • Dean Grey because he makes small cute characters, again through illustration.
  • Alexandra Bucktin previously went to Leeds College of Art and does nice illustrations.
  • Purple Onion Designs are appealing to her because they produce light-hearted doodle collages.
  • She previously researched Georgina Luck for an art project and really admires her water paint illustrations.
  • She also likes Boom Artwork's detailed doodles.

Danielle
  • She really likes triangles and therefore chose an example of geometric style typography because she liked the shapes within the typeface.
  • She finds street art inspirational because, in her own words its 'just amazing' and 'blows my mind'
  • Barabara Krugger because she uses fun type experimenting with juxtaposition and wordplay.
  • She previously studied on a fashion course and has always been inspired by marketing fashion, both digital and editorial.
  • She likes letterpress because she feels it can sometimes produce more interesting type.
  • Fashion-related graphics such as magazine layout really interests her.
  • Almost all the work she's inspired by involves colour because she prefers it to black and white.
  • She's interested in illustation made from type such as imagery within a letterform because it is imaginative and effective.
  • One of her favourite things to work with/photograph is textures. She likes distressed substances/surfeces such as rust and walls.
  • She also likes to work with collage, particularly digitally. 

Ant
  • He prefers hand-drawn illustration as it has a more personal feel to it.
  • An example of illustration he likes is vector drawings.
  • He likes panorama because it gives a different, more broad view.
  • He likes 3D modelling because he finds it easy to use and manipulate.
  • 3D photos and photo-manipulation inspires him because it allows him to imagine and create new things.
  • He likes images created on Photoshop because its something he enjoys doing himself. He likes that you can create images you wouldn't usually see.
  • He likes magazine spreads because he enjoys working with a lot of text to make it look appealing.
  • Typography inspires him because he's always enjoyed working with type.
  • He likes the bold style of film poster designs.
  • Also he likes designing t-shirts.
Roxxie


  • She likes the unique style of Jessica Hische's handmade typography.
  • Jack Sharples because he uses unusual materials for typography.
  • Maurice Sendak uses a playful and imaginative style that reminds her of her childhood.
  • Craig Ward is another artist who experiments with type using alternative media which she likes.
  • Teagan White because she uses illustrative typography.
  • Matt Ottdall because he uses retro typography which is consistent and well executed.
  • Alberto Serveso because she likes the colours and shapes used in his typography work.
  • She used to study Russian so is inspired by Russian propaganda and enjoys writing in cyrillic.
  • She enjoys creating artist books of unusual topics such as rare phobias A-Z.
  • Also she likes Alberto Giacometti because he uses an unusual, unique style.
